The Youth Olympic Flame

The Torch
torch
Design Inspiration
The Youth Olympic Flame (JYOF) torch takes its design inspiration from fire and water.
Fire represents the Youth's passion and burning desire to learn and excel, blazing the trail in life.
Water represents Singapore, with its origins as a seaport; and the vibrant and dynamic nature of Singapore as an island city-state.
The torch was designed to combine the dual elements of fire and water, with the water wave on the torch body and a flaming fire on top.
The top part of the torch body is reflective and acts as a mirror, bearing the images and elements of Singapore as the Youth Olympic Flame is carried across the island by the torchbearer during the torch relay in Singapore.

The Community Cauldron
cauldron
The Community Cauldron is a small cauldron designed and produced to hold the Youth Olympic Flame. The use of the Community Cauldron allows the Flame to be displayed at the Community Celebration sites in Singapore and each of the five other cities that the Journey of the Youth Olympic Flame will pass through.

The Safety Lantern
safety lantern

Safety lanterns are used to transport the Youth Olympic Flame when not carried by a torchbearer.
At the start of each relay day, the Youth Olympic Flame is taken from the safety lantern to light the torch. At the end of the day, the Flame from the torch is transferred to the safety lantern for safeguarding.
A number of safety lanterns are kept alight with the Youth Olympic Flame in case the Flame carried by the torch or other device go out unexpectedly (e.g. from high winds). In addition, the safety lanterns continue to hold the Flame during the duration of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (Singapore 2010).

Did You Know?
  • Only one Olympic Flame and Olympic Torch Relay can be in operation at any time; and the Flame cannot be split and conveyed by more than one torch relay;
  • The Olympic Flame cannot be "left behind" at a particular location; for example, by lighting a local cauldron that remains lit after the torch relay has progressed to another location;
  • The Olympic Flame once lit in Olympia, Greece, must remain lit throughout until the Olympic Games Closing Ceremony;
  • The Olympic Flame cannot be used to light any other flame for any reason.

European Handball Simulator 2010

Hi Guys, I thought this video might be a good illustration of the basic strategy we have been playing. In case some of you still don't understand.

GOOD JOB!

Good Job 101!

So far I have seen 3 lesson plans. I'm hoping the fourth one comes before monday!

Mr.A

Reflections!

For coaches who have finished their tour of duty and for coaches about to embark on their tours, here are some questions for you to ponder when deciding if you have done well:

1. What were the strategies that you deployed for this game?
2. Why did you deploy this strategy?
3. How effective was this strategy during the game?
4. How can your team improve its game?
5. How did the strategy you deployed affect the outcome of the game?

Remember! when you think of the answers, always think of the Intellectual Standards!

Games during lunch

We have been playing captain's ball for 4, 5 months.
DO you think we should change the game we play during lunch?
What game should we play?
Should we create our own game?
Write down your thoughts!

Friday, July 16, 2010

Things to note!

For the first lesson next week - T5 will be the statistician and journalist. The links to the stats sheet and lesson plan will be available on the S&W google page.

The coaches will have to give me their lesson plans, by Monday except for T5.

Just in case you forgot,

Each coach will choose to plan the training for their respective teams. This means that the coaches will have to plan the activity and the equipment needed.

This training will last for about 20 mins the next 20 mins will be a game and the last 10 mins will be for the coaches to debrief their own teams.

Materials to download

Please download the materials from the google site.

Teams - download the coaches and managers schedule and plan these. Put it up on the blog and pass me a hardcopy.

Coaches - download and prepare you lesson plan before the next lesson. Please discuss your trainings with me.

Then, inform your managers and myself the equipment you need.

Stats Team - Please download the stats sheet and bring for SW period. Also please bring along your cameras to take pictures. Remember! the stats team will become a journalist during the training period.
